The Baby Wish!!!

Yesterday was a difficult day for me. My Wife was wonderful trying to make it less stressful so I could enjoy the beauty of the day. My Oldest Daughter turned 13 years old. I have gone from 4 children in the house to 3 children and a teenager. For the past 13 years there has only been one constant in my life, Meg. She is the only person that has always been there no matter where I moved, she went with me, no matter what I had to get done, she has been there with me. She has been to 6 diffrent schools she has lived in 3 diffrent country's, she has lived in 3 different states. She is the reason I decided that when I got to NY I would settle down and plan on not leaving. She deserves this.
Yesterday this little girl turned into a teenager, It was difficult for me just because I looked at the past 13 years and I wondered what happened to the time from the nurse teaching me how to bath her to buying her maxi-pads and Make-up.
I will tell you now I am lucky to have a daughter like her. Lacrosse try-outs start today, so for her birthday she got a new lacrosse stick for herself and one for me. Yes it was her birthday present, I can now spend time with her teaching the game and skills she needs to have fun at the best sport ever!!!
Meg, I am proud of you and I love you very much!!!
To BabyDru, Please don't grow up to fast and like your oldest sister, Enjoy the time you have with your Mother and me.

Have I told you lately how much I love you??

Is my husband not the cutest with his posts? I am by far the luckiest woman in the world.

And I feel his pain - people give me some crazy looks when I say this is our 5th child. No matter that it's a blended family .... and because of that I have been doing a lot more research on large families - we both came from 2 and only had 2 each before we were married. FIVE is a bit different. I have become an expert in multi-child space organizing, laundry delegation, making leftovers last, and creating fun for pennies. And you know what? I have never been happier!! I love all of my children - those I birthed and those I am now helping to raise. It has not been without it's challenges of course - money needs to go a lot further, we have ex's and their issues to contend with and stepsiblings to not always get along like the Brady's portrayed. But when it works - it's magic. So here's to all those parents of lots of gifts from God, those who they had a hand in creating and those they have a hand in raising.

Number 5, Almost here

Although it is a Brady bunch family of the 21st century it is going to still be 5 children. 2 mine, 2 hers and one ours. The 5th one will be here in 3 short months which is already making people look at me funny. A year ago when I was asked how many children I had and I would reply with the safe number 2, people would respond with, "wow, you are so lucky." After a wedding increasing that number to four and finding out that MommyDru is Pregnant again I now reply to the question, "Fifth one is on its way." You would not believe the responses I get to that. Everyone looks at me like I am crazy.
I do not understand this reaction at all, is more that 2 kids really that bad? Why do you look at me like I am crazy to be excited about having my fifth child living in the house?
My Mother was one of 6 and my grandmother was one of 11, is there a chance that I just like being a parent and I believe that I am good at it so bringing in another is exciting?
Yes this will be one more sitting at the table after school to get help with homework, another trip to some sort of activity on Saturday or Sunday. Another college tuition.
I get special time with each of these children, dinner for me and one of them might be more of a dinner with one of them and the baby and may be dinner with two of them. However, I believe that none of these kids lack special time or any needs and they do have a lot of their wants.
Yes this is just a rant because there are actually people out there that believe we shouldn't have another one. I actually had to explain to a ten year old why we chose not to have an abortion because she overheard a couple adults saying that we had to many. I am not on any state funding and all my kids have health benefits and see the Doctor on a regular basis. So we get cereal in a Bag instead of a box, but that is just an easy way to save a few bucks!!!

My Fear of Raising a Son

I have been a father of Girls for almost 13 years now. I have been thinking a lot lately about the difference in Boys and girls and how it will be different with a son (other than potty training). I have always stressed a girl can do anything a boy can do, which I truley believe. I have never pushed and always encouraged any activity no matter if it was designed for a boy or a girl. I have noticed that until Puberty hits I have had some very tomboyish girls in the house. But once that nasty thing called Puberty visits it seams I lose footballs and the Make-up on the bathroom counter reproduces faster than rabbits.

I was thinking about this the other day, I am going to have a son, what are the chances that I may have a football for a very long time now? How about playing with bugs? One of the problems I do forsee is I have taught my girls that Girls are better than boys at most everything they want to try and accomplish. This is something else I firmly believe, I mean come on they bleed for a week at a time and still live, how can a boy top that? But what happens the first time that one of the girls says to Baby Dru, "Dad said I am better than you because I am a girl"

I guess I can always tell him, "That is what life is, always let the woman believe she is better."

Nature vs. Nurture

This is a topic that has always interested me and to be honest I have always used my daughter as an example. For some reason with a new baby on the way I have been paying more attention to this. My oldest has seen her mother once in the past 11 years. This would lead me to believe that there would be very little things about her that would be like her mother.
However, I do see things about her but I am starting to understand that there is a difference between Nature and Nurture when it comes to qualities that your child posses.
With a new baby on the way I have been looking at all four of our kids and try to take out the Nature aspect that is provided in those children by the parents that are not involved in the new baby, in other words the Ex’s traits. Then I look at my wife and my traits and then our child raising abilities. I think I am getting a good picture of what the baby is going to be like.
1. Very Good Looking (this is all because my looks never show up in my kids and my wife is very good looking.
2. Very Smart, we are talking about Doogie Howser here. Again this is because my traits don’t show up in my children.
3. Athletic and coordinated. Both of us like sports and sport participation.
4. Shy, yes this is the only trait that shows up in my kids that they get from me.

So, my fortune telling is going to say that this child is going to be a good looking professional sports player that wins the Nobel Peace Prize but calls in sick to accept the award because he/she doesn’t like crowds.

Youngest to Oldest

I was about to turn 22 when my first Daughter was born. She is now about to turn 13 and I have another baby getting ready to download in July. The other day me and Meg (the 13 year old) were talking. She was reminding me that all of her friends parents are older than me. She keeps telling me that I am very young to have a 13 year old and I may not be the youngest parent in her class but I am pretty close. Although, I believe that for a lot of people 21 was to young to have a child. Most people are not set in their career and do not have the proper savings and ability to work out the difficulties of being a parent when they are only 21. I however never say I wasn't ready. I may have been a little immature but I was looking for an excuse to go to the movies and watch the new Disney Movie coming out. I have a huge collection of Cartoons on VHS (yes this was before DVD's). I may have been new to my Career but it was stable and I was already moving up the ladder. I had full Medical benefits and a nice two bedroom apartment. I was ready and I believe that was a great time to have a child for me.
Meg informed me that I am 34 years old with a wife that is older and although when this baby is in 7th grade like her I will be 47 with a wife over 50. I can not imagine what that is going to be like. I am going to go from one of the youngest Parents to one of the oldest Parents.
I was thinking about this last night while I couldn't sleep. This does not seam as bad as I thought. My new son or daughter is going to be 16 when I am 50. That just means my baby will be learning to drive while taking me to the Doctors, or taking me on my sunday drive away from the nursing home. Okay, your right that is exagerating a little. I do realize that I will still be working. All of my children will be out of the house and out of College when I reach my eligibility to retire (57 with the plan I have now but hopefully sooner) I realize, My career is full forward and still moving. My House is big enough for another little moster running around. My wife's Career is to the point that she can make her schedule to include important things that may come up. And most importantly, I am still immature enough to want to go see the newest Disney Movie. I may be one of the older parents with this new baby but I believe I am still as ready and able to be a parent that I was when the other ones were born.
Now maybe I will get my son???

Blog Change

With the 2 new readers, that makes it 4 including Daddy Dru and Mommy Dru, I have decided to get rid of my selfish ways and changed the Background to make it easier for you all to read it. Okay honestly, Mommy Dru forced me to. Hey I am one to talk about Compromise when there is a difference of opinion as a married couple. However with the whole changes in hormones and the fact that MommyDru is always "tye red" It is not worth fighting about. So I hope you enjoy the new background and it is now easier for GrandmaDru to read ;)
Anyway this week has been pretty uneventful. However yesterday was a very rough day from MommyDru getting sick all day and a Migraine. Luckily today she woke up with new energy.
We are also talking about Names with the girls already. I have heard a lot of names already:
If twins boy and girl I want Marshal and Lilly
If twin Boys I like Marshal and Ted
If Twin Girls I like Robyn and Lilly
If a Boy Barney
If a Girl Dru
What do you think?

Announcement to other Kids

So we announced to the other 4 children that belong to us and the 2 that stay in our house. That went over kind of how I expected it would. The oldest of the herd did surprise me. You think being Twelve and having 5 other kids in the house younger than her would make her think, "OHHH, Crap another pain in the ass that will keep barging into my room while I am talking on the phone with my friends."
Well, to our surprise she had a smile from ear to ear and was very excited about that. I did ask her about what she though about another little sister in the house and she said, "Can't it be a boy this time?"
The two girls in the middle were also very excited about the new member of our family. I can just see them telling everyone in the school right now. However, I do not think the 4 year is taking it to well. She had a look on her face where I could only imagine her thinking, "Why in the hell would you want another one when you have the perfect child right here." Well, being the baby is a hard position to give up. There will be a lot of talking about this to her.

Family of Baby Dru

This will not be my first baby and this will not be my wife's first baby. But this is our first baby. I do have two daughters and my wife has two daughters.
We will have a His, Hers and Theirs situation with a total of 5 children. All of them living with us. I do have custody of both my daughters and my wife splits equal time with her ex-husband.
4 daughters... Although I have always wanted daughters, there is nothing better than the father daughter relationship, do I want a boy or a girl????
Help me decide!!!

New Blog for exciting time

I just want to get the first post out...
Me and my lovely wife have found out today that we are going to have a baby. She is not far along at all. We do not have the first OB/GYN appointment until Early Dec.
She just got back from the Dr. Appointment with the Positive result.

I am so excited about the new Baby Dru...
